APYN is getting better and BETTER

APYN Visioning Workshop, November 2008

Although the idea of creating a community of practice on youth employment began a few years ago – for me, the community was “born” in November 2008 during the Visioning Workshop: http://ap-youthnet.ilobkk.or.th/resources/seminar-and-workshop-materials/regional-visioning-workshop-apyouthnet-community-of-practice

As you can see, we are currently enhancing the portal to be more interactive and user-friendly.  We’d like to hear your comments on what you like, don’t like, and what more can be done to make our virtual community’s home "sparkle".  Also, what are some ways that we can promote and encourage other people to join – particularly youth?

APYouthNet belongs to all of us; it’s important that we make sure it grows up to be a happy and healthy community!  We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

APYN is getting better and BETTER

Hello Goy. Shaun in Vanuatu here. APYN is definitely getting better and better. The website has improved significantly throughout 2009. I hope this will continue in 2010.

I hope in 2010 there can be a much greater engagement on the Pacific. Perhaps a discussion forum only for PIC's would be one way to proactively kick-start their engagement? Perhaps the new APYN / PYC partnership could be effective in this regard?

Perhaps a marketing campaign from APYN would be effective? A hard copy flyer or small poster circulated to potential users may help? I would suggest a seperate marketing poster / flyer for the PICs than the Asian countries. PICs will not engage effectively if it is seen as an Asian dominated product.

Bear in mind there is NO service like this that I am aware of in the Pacific, so I think there is a clear opportunity for APYN in this regard.

But also bear in mind that our PIC issues and challenges are very different than the Asian countries, so perhaps a specific strategy to engage PICs would help?

I think we should engage with the University of the South Pacific in this regard. The students at the various campuses are more likely to be internet users, and more likely to have the capacity to engage productively in e-discussions. I could pick this up with USP campus in Vanuatu to be a 'pilot' if you would like.

Perhaps there needs to be more responsibility given to the APYN 'ambassadors'? I don't know who is the APYN Ambassador in the Pacific but a personal email from time to time (as I get sometimes from Goy and Valentina) is a very effective way of stimulating engagement.

If a person has the honour of being an APYN Ambassador, then they have to do something in return i.e promoting APYN usage and engagement from their country members.

Shaun in Vanuatu.
