Sri Lanka: Vocational training for plantation youth
The Youth Employment Project (ILO/Japan) promotes vocational training for livelihood enhancement for youth living in plantation estates. One of the estates involved in the project - Pussellawa estate – facilitated training for youth who wish to start their own businesses inside the estate.

Youth were trained on how to use chain-saws. The skill is key in maintenance of rubber estates which encompass the cutting down of old rubber trees. Participants were also trained in budding and grafting of trees.
After training, youth are encouraged to form small cooperative companies that will solicit services to plantation estates and companies. Under the project youth were also provided with youth entrepreneurship awareness training.
