Past discussion forums
Post thoughts, share ideas and ask questions on any youth related topic: APYouthNet Community Exchange
APYouthNet (APYN) discussion forums serve as a platform to allow members to harness the existing pool of knowledge and expertise within the community and beyond to discuss and address issues related to youth employment.
Each discussion forum is carefully moderated by an expert/champion on the issue. Discussion forums will be opened for a pre-determined number days for commenting by community members. At the end of each discussion, the moderator will consolidate responses and provide a summary of points/conclusions/next steps.
How it Works
In November 2008, a workshop was held which convened a core set of YE practitioners and experts in the region. Three priority topics were identified to base discussion forums on. Namely:
- Youth enterprise
- Education and skills training to improve employability of young people
- Rights of and conditions of young workers
At the onset of each discussion, an announcement will be issued to members of the portal and the APYN distribution list. Those interested in participating must then sign up for the discussion (please note that you must be a registered member of APYN to participate in discussions – click on ‘register now’ on the homepage to do so).
During each forum, a dedicated moderator will pose questions to the community to seek their advice, experiences, examples or referrals on the specific topics. Members are asked to respond based on their experience and knowledge during a specified period of time (generally 2-3 weeks).
After the active moderation of responses, the moderator will provide the entire community with a concise synopsis of the discussion outcomes and next steps. This repository of knowledge and lessons learned during the course of the discussion will be stored on the portal and serve as a great resource for practitioners and experts in making more informed decisions.
