1.     Source of funding

Over the past six years, the largest contributors have been Australia, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, India, New Zealand, Nigeria and the UK. Some member countries’ overseas territories and associated states also contribute. For various special CFTC projects, contributions have been received from non-Commonwealth governments and voluntary organisations.

2.     Mission and objectives

CYP Asia Centre's mission is to provide young citizens of the Commonwealth with critical knowledge, skills and opportunities effectively in the development and governance of their communities and societies.

In doing so we assist ministries, national youth organisations and other stakeholders to build the enabling environment for youth development and participation. We support the efforts of Commonwealth member countries in the formulation of policies and development programmes which effectively address issues and concerns of young women and men in Asia.

6.     Successful youth employment interventions

1. Youth Enterprise and Sustainable Livelihoods (YESL): CYP plans to promote sustainable livelihoods among young people as a        strategy for poverty reduction and enhancement of living standards through enterprise training, micro-credit and research into other innovative projects in collaboration with our partners. Find more information on this programme here.

2.Governance, Development and Youth Networks (GDYN):  Through the Governance, Development and Youth Networks (GDYN) programme, CYP works to enhance policy development and implementation through the active participation of young people in youth networks, governance and other decision-making forums. Our goal is to create and strengthen networks of young people, which they will use to influence decision-making processes and bring about change in governance in their countries. This will also help them engage more confidently in all aspects of their societies and become more active citizens.  Find more information on this programme here.

3.Youth Work Education and Training (YWET): Through this programme, CYP plans to develop and promote the profession of youth work, guided by a code of practice and supported by regulatory mechanisms. This will be informed by the lessons and experiences gained from the CYP Diploma in Youth Development and short courses delivered across the Commonwealth over the past five years. Find more information on this programme here.

4. Youth Enterprise Foundation:  The YEF is designed as a self-sustaining  venture, funded by shares owned by young people, governments and other stakeholders. The government's role  decreases as more and more young people buy into the venture. Find more information on this programme here.

5. Commonwealth Youth Credit Initiative: The main objective of the Commonwealth Youth Credit Initiative is the creation of       employment opportunities for   unemployed young people through training and credit support. Therefore, there is increased access to and   opportunities through micro-credit for disadvantaged youth. Disadvantaged young women and men are trained in   financial and enterprise management and are approved for credit to establish successful businesses. Thus there   are increasing numbers of young people in gainful employment . The programme also increases the knowledge of   young people and youth-related organisations in the operation and management of credit programmes. Find our more about this programme here.

6. Commonwealth Asia Forum of Junior Chambers:  The Commonwealth Asia Forum of Junior Chambers (C7-JC) was instituted on    20th November 2002 in Singapore as the salient outcome of the Asia Regional Consultation on Youth Chambers of Commerce jointly organised by Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) Asia Centre and National Youth Council, Singapore. C7-JC was formed with the aim of enhancing regional co-operation among young people in addition to promoting, facilitating, and developing enterprises, entrepreneurship, business skills, values, ethics, mentorship and leadership among young people of the Commonwealth Asian member countries.
