No clarity on RYK job scheme placements

WARANGAL: Thousands of youth are in a dilemma over the
much-publicised Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu (RYK) job scheme, which has failed to
provide placements in the private sector. These young people were under the
impression that RYK would provide them jobs in the government sector.
Several of them are spending hours at the internet cafes and enrolling
their names for RYK in the hope that they would end up with a government job.
Officials, however, said RYK provides jobs in private sectors such as
construction, hotel
management, data entry operator (computer) and textile (weaving) industry,
to those who have completed their Class X.
As per RYK chart, 4,776
candidates had approached for employment through RYK in December, but the
authorities had given placements to 5,275 youths. "How could it be possible that
there were more job placements than those actually applied for? This RYK is a
farce," a TRS leader said.
Sources said the youth are at their wit's end
though the government has promised to dole out one lakh jobs under RYK.
"The government is fooling us with a false notion that it is providing
us a government job which is not the case," A Rajkumar of Neerukulla village of
Atmakur mandal said. He wanted clarity on RYK placements.
The rural poor
and unemployed youth are the worst-hit. Though several of them are enrolling for
RYK, they have no clue as to what jobs are on the offer for them. "The
government officials are not clarifying. That Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has
cancelled his tour to unveil RYK in Hyderabad tantamount to the worries of
candidates", Venkateshwar Rao of Hasanparthy said.
